28.11.24, LECTURE | THE PLATER AS COURT ARTIST | by Rahul Kulka

German Version Below

Our colleague, Rahul Kulka, will give a lecture on the 28th November 2024, at 7 pm, in the Bassano Hall of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna

From the court platers of Emperor Maximilian I around 1500 to the King’s Armourer of the present day, the makers of armor represent a personal constant in the environment of numerous European princes. This lecture examines the often overlooked but central importance of armourers in courtly art production. They not only ensured physical integrity in war and tournaments. With their coveted portable works of art, they also played a decisive role in shaping the princely appearance at public appearances.
