23-25.05.24, CONFERENCE | MANAGING THE PRINCE: A FEEDBACK IN PICTURES


Last week (23-25 May 2024) saw the Kick-Off conference of the Managing Maximilian project, Managing the Prince: Hidden Actors and the Prosopography of Pre-modern Rulership, held at the Weltmuseum Wien Forum – KHM (Heldenplatz, 1010 Wien).

The event provided an opportunity to officially welcome and thank the project’s institutional and scientific partners, including Heinz Fassmann (President of the Austrian Academy of Science – ÖAW), Christof Gattringer (President of the Austrian Science Fund – FWF), Sebastian Schütze (Rector of the University of Vienna – UWien) and Franz Pichorner (Secretary General of the Kunsthistorisches Museum – KHM).

The fruitful scientific exchanges between Andreas Zajic, Managing Maximilian’s Co-ordinator, the various sub-project leaders (Elisabeth Klecker, Stefan Krause, Birgit Lodes, Christina Lutter, Christof Metzger, Stephan Müller, Georg Vogeler), the project members and the external participants provided an opportunity to discuss the directions taken by the project, particularly during the numerous sessions devoted to responding to the reflections of the respondents.


Élodie Lecuppre-Desjardin – Professor at the Université de Lille (France)


On the evening of Thursday 23 May, Élodie Lecuppre-Desjardin (University of Lille) gave us an evening lecture in which she developed a thought-provoking cross between the prosopographical approach and the emergence of the modern state. ‘Can we then speak of a prosopographical state?
