18.03.24, LECTURE | DIE PERSÖNLICHE DIMENSION EINER SELTSAMEN POLITISCHEN ALLIANZ? | by Michail Bojcov

18.03.2024, 17.00, by Univ.-Prof., Dr. Michail Bojcov (Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf)

Chair: Andreas Zajic

Newly discovered archives have made it possible to document a forgotten legation from Moscow to Maximilian I of Habsburg. They also bring to light two hitherto unknown individuals from Maximilian’s circle who visited the Grand Duchy of Moscow before Sigmund von Herberstein. One of them even spent several months there, longer than Herberstein himself. In his famous book, did the latter perhaps recount the accounts of his predecessors, with whom he was also related? Finally, these documents suggest that the anti-Jagellonian alliance of 1514 owed its origins less to high politics than to accidental intra-family relations.

The lecture will be held at the University of Vienna (Franz-König-Saal (Tiefparterre, Stiege 9, Hof 5).

It is a collaboration between the ManMax project and the Institutsseminar des Instituts für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung at the University of Vienna.
